Initially and due to the lack of pavements in our urbanisation, to finish off the road, a gullies were built to avoid the rain water running into dwellings and plots. This was also something specified on the bylaws and we were obliged to build them. At present, you will have noticed that there is no gully on the most recently built pavements, as it doesn’t make much sense anymore because the water runs alongside the curb of the pavement.
In this sense, we have started to cover some old gullies to widen the width of the road making it safer for the traffic flow. On the other side, it also makes it a lot easier to access the parking spaces and, in some places, it improves the visibility on sharp bends.
