We would like to inform all residents that we are currently carrying out treatments on the pine trees in our communal areas to protect them against the pine processionary caterpillar. This work is done every year around this time, as autumn is the ideal period to prevent the caterpillars from appearing in spring.
The pine processionary is a caterpillar that not only weakens and damages trees but also poses a serious health risk to people and animals, particularly dogs, which can suffer severe allergic reactions when they come into contact with the caterpillars’ irritating hairs.
Controlling this pest is both a legal requirement and an essential preventive measure to stop its spread. If the trees are not treated now, the caterpillars will emerge in spring, making them much harder and more expensive to control.
We strongly encourage residents who have pine trees on their private property to arrange for treatment as well. In recent years, milder winters and warmer autumns have contributed to a greater proliferation of this pest, and last year we experienced significant problems as a result.
Today’s treatments are far more environmentally friendly and safer than in the past. Most are applied using endotherapy, a technique that involves injecting the treatment directly into the trunk of the tree, avoiding the release of chemicals into the air or soil.
Residents who wish to treat their own trees can contact the office, which will be happy to put them in touch with the company currently carrying out the treatments in our community or with other qualified providers.
Taking care of our pine trees means taking care of all of us. 🌿
