Works Carried Out in the Urbanisation – October
During the month of October, various maintenance and conservation works have been carried out in our urbanisation. This month marks the start of one of the most important annual tasks: the preventive treatment of pine trees against the pine processionary caterpillar (Thaumetopoea pityocampa).
As many of you know, this work is carried out by an external specialist company that has been collaborating with us for many years. Our urbanisation is fortunate to have a large number of pine trees, which are an essential part of our surroundings and their beauty. However, this also means we have a responsibility to care for and protect them, and we encourage all residents to do the same.
The high temperatures of recent years have unfortunately favoured the spread of this pest. Last spring we faced quite a few problems, as the white nests of the caterpillars began appearing as early as January, much earlier than usual. We would like to remind all residents that the hairs of the caterpillars are highly urticant and can cause serious irritation, particularly to pets. Therefore, we ask everyone to take precautions and follow the recommendations of our maintenance team.
Garden Maintenance and a New Palm Tree Disease
At the same time, we have continued with our regular garden maintenance tasks for the autumn season, including pruning, leaf collection, and irrigation system checks. However, many neighbours may have noticed a worrying issue: several palm trees are dying.
The cause is the arrival of a new disease, caused by the fungus Fusarium oxysporum, commonly known as Fusarium wilt. Although it has not been common in our area until now, this fungus has already affected palm trees in the Canary Islands and other parts of Spain. It primarily attacks the vascular system of the tree, preventing the flow of water and nutrients, which eventually leads to its death.
So far, we have had to remove some severely affected palms, but as the number of cases continues to rise, we are considering broader measures to control its spread and protect our green spaces.
Incidents and Repairs
During the month of October, we have also had to repair various damages caused by acts of vandalism to the public furniture in the urbanisation, including benches, bins, and streetlights. Unfortunately, these incidents represent an additional cost and inconvenience for everyone, so we appreciate the cooperation of those who promptly report any damage or inappropriate behaviour.
In addition, wild boars have once again caused damage to some gardens, uprooting grassed areas and digging up soil in search of food. Our maintenance team has worked to restore the affected areas, and we are currently considering deterrent measures to help reduce these incidents in the future.
Rain Damage
In the final days of October, we experienced a period of heavy rainfall that affected some areas of the urbanisation. Thanks to the preventive cleaning of drains and grates carried out by our maintenance team beforehand, the impact was minimal. Even so, minor repairs were carried out promptly, ensuring that everything returned to normal in a very short time.
Regular Maintenance and Photo Gallery
In addition to these specific interventions, our staff continue with the usual daily maintenance work, including cleaning of streets and pathways and other tasks that help to keep our shared areas in excellent condition.
We invite all residents to visit the photo gallery, where you can see some images of the works carried out this month.
