For the attention of all owners and residents:
We hereby wish to inform you of the extremely serious situation currently affecting the green waste (garden pruning) collection service. This issue remains entirely outside our direct control and is affecting the entire Costa del Sol across the province.
Our urbanisation has held a service contract with the company RECICLADOS MIJAS since 1998. Currently, this company’s waste transfer station is completely closed, as are all others in the western Costa del Sol. Due to circumstances beyond its control, the company is unable to fulfil its contractual commitment to take the waste to its own facility. Furthermore, it is neither providing the necessary lorries to transfer the accumulated waste to an alternative plant nor has it been able to offer any viable logistical alternatives.
Despite our repeated efforts and complaints, no public authority has so far been able to provide a solution to this problem, which is worsening day by day. On the contrary, the Environmental Department of the Junta de Andalucía is conducting inspections and issuing official reports regarding the accumulation of waste. At present, the only viable open facility in the entire area is the plant located on the Marbella-Ojén road; transport contractors are unwilling to take garden waste to plants located further away.
However, this facility is itself severely congested and has imposed drastic restrictions: it only permits the entry of two lorries per day per transport contractor. Since the entire Costa del Sol is facing the exact same predicament, demand for transport services is extremely high, and securing available transport contractors has become an exceptionally complex task.
In the absence of external solutions and in order to ensure everyone´s safety, we are taking action using the limited resources currently at our disposal.
We sincerely hope that this critical situation will be resolved and that conditions will begin to improve shortly through action by the relevant authorities. We wish to be realistic and transparent: bringing the entire urbanisation back to normal levels of cleanliness and service will take a considerable amount of time and require a significant financial outlay.
Nevertheless, we are fully aware that residents need and expect this service. We therefore assure you that we are doing and will continue to do everything within our power, exploring both legal avenues and logistical alternatives, to restore normality as soon as possible.
We would like to thank you in advance for your patience, understanding, and cooperation during these exceptionally difficult circumstances.
